10 Tips To Help You Look Exceptional In Corporate Shoots
We have helped many companies shoot corporate shoots for a while. The truth is no one gives real advice on how to have their photo taken. So, without further ado, we have compiled ten of our best tips that enable your company to get the most out of your shoots.
1. Consider your dressings
Unless it is your company brand, logo, or slogan, try not to wear any shirts with funny slogans, names, or graphic logos. They do not look good in photos, and chances are, they might also be cut off in the shot. Additionally, thin stripes and patterns do not appear well on computer screens and cameras due to the moire effect when such thin patterns that are close together appear to ripple on screens.
A plain shirt is the ideal kind of dressing. After all, the images will remain on your corporate website for a couple of years. Another thing to consider about your dressing is the colour tone. However, this is more of a concern if your company portraits are going to be converted into black and white. For example, if you wear a light blue shirt with a pink tie, that fit may look great in reality, but they blend together instantly when shot in black and white.
2. Shiny skin
Whether the photographer goes to your office or your company goes to the photographer’s studio, they will be using artificial lights as it ensures optimal and constant lighting ideal for photoshoots. While such lighting brings the best out of your image, it also can accentuate any glossiness that comes from your facial sweat and oil.
Hence, for ladies, we recommend touching up your face with a little foundation or concealer. And for the gentlemen, wash your face in the toilet or wipe them with wet wipes before shooting.
3. Hair
We have seen many clients who arrive at their photoshoot right on the dot with their hair in a total mess, looking like they ran to the photoshoot location. This is especially more so for the ladies due to their long hair. One recommendation we have is always to bring your hairbrush or comb to the shoot. Whether you are a guy or a lady, combing or brushing your hair before the shoot ensures that no hair is out of place. While any hair out of place can easily be edited away, we try not to, as it can take up more time to do so. It is so much better to ensure that your photo is well-taken so that minimal work is conducted post-shoot.
4. Makeup
A company photo is, after all, a professional shot of the company. So, while you may not have the habit of putting on makeup, it would be best in this situation. This applies to guys as well. Do not go overboard, and apply thick makeup. A natural look is ideal.
5. Glasses
This is not a major concern. However, it depends on whether you normally wear them or not. So, you make the decision if you want to wear them in your corporate shoot. Should you decide to wear glasses, some things to note before the photoshoot is ensuring they are exceptionally clean and free from eyelashes, fingerprints, and dust. You will be surprised to know that the cameras are able to capture them, especially when studio lighting is used. Also, when you are having your photos taken, ensure that your glasses are pushed all the way to the back. This is to prevent your glasses from blocking a portion of your eyes. In company photoshoots, your eyes must be seen.
6. Choose your preferred side
Everybody has a better side to their face. Often we have met clients who have a preferred side they would like it to be focused. Likewise, if there are particular features that you might not be confident about, do not hesitate to let the photographer know about them. For example, you might not have perfect teeth. Before the photoshoot, let the photographer know about it, and they will try to shoot you smiling with your mouth closed. It is better to let the photographer know about it so they can capture the best version of yourself rather than shooting a picture that you know you hate but have to live with it for as long as the picture is up on your company’s website.
7. Get the right height
Always be at the same level or slightly below the camera lens. Do not worry, as the photographer will generally adjust you to optimise the shoot. However, some thing you can do, especially if you are really tall, is you can spread your legs as wide as possible to bring your height down a couple of centimetres. Alternatively, you might want to grab a chair or stool and just sit down.
8. Relax and be quiet
Take a deep breath and learn to relax in a photoshoot. If it is your first time having a professional photo shoot, the photographer might chat with you a little to get you to calm down. However, do not nervously chat away. You are in good hands. Just sit back, be comfortable, and let the photographer conduct their magic.
9. Smile
Smiling is one of the hardest things to replicate, especially during a photo shoot when you are put on a spot. So, rather than having to force one out, get your colleagues to chat with you. In our experience, one of the best and most natural smiles we have seen in photoshoots is when they do not think about the actual smile. It just occurs when they naturally react to something funny or positive.
10. The mirror is your best friend
Always, and we cannot reiterate the importance of checking the mirror before your photoshoot. Make sure you are happy with the way you look and that your lunch or snack is not stuck between your teeth.
